Let’s Not Regret Life

by
Kecia Wilson-Jackson

I choose the theme of let’s not regret life for several reasons. First of all before coming to this class I had never heard of Haiku. Secondly and most important I gain a new perspective on poetry. The experience has enlightened my life in a profound manner. It has given me the opportunity to acknowledge and reminiscence on some wonderful memories in my life.
We all have various experiences with life whether good or bad, through this process I have discovered the joy of remembering the good times and the bad times in life with a different perspective. I have learned to appreciate the bad times as life experiences for healing the wounds we carry so deeply in our life hidden away.

Participating in Haiku has given me the opportunity to reflect on memories of my life which seem small and unimportant at times, but through the last few weeks the memories have gained a new prospective of appreciation for me. I have learned to cherish every moment no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Reading the works of various poets has conjured up a lot of memories placed on the back burner of my thoughts. I have begun to see the significance of each memory and the role it has in shaping me to be the individual I am today.

The rengay I have choose to depict an aspect of my life is a path my life has taken for whatever reason, but I am thankful to have shared the path with some wonderful individuals and I thank them for being a part of my life.

broken heart lies still
the trash is full of snapshots
good by fantasies

thankfulness
no cries or rings
one moment of peace

Saturday morning
children and dad
giggling in the kitchen

footprints in the sand
waves of blue
in the distance beyond

Rengay

summer heat
beating down
on my skin

the warmth of the sand
underneath my feet

In the distance
the echo of whales
soaring thru the air

sailboats sway
from side to side

the sea stretches
for miles and miles
no land in sight

a vision of heaven and earth
intertwine
