country church
big fancy hat
shades her Sunday best

Sunday morning church
cold outside
warm inside

butterflies flutter
at the cave
eyes peer out

gusting wind
leaves gently
scrape the concrete

neon lights
bells and whistles
reaching for more quarters

snow covered hill
      n  d  d
   a             o
 p                 w
u                   n
sleds strewn about

home
everyone gathers
smell of chicken frying

falling rapidly
fresh snow flakes
caught on my tongue

warm winter day
the snowman in the yard
loses an eye

between the trees
white mushrooms
a fairy ring

the phone rings
I won’t be in
tomorrow

the phone call
always ends
I love you

basketball season . . .
a referee's final call
husband yells

mom snaps her fingers
rowdy children
at attention

polished guns
bugle
husband's funeral

dazed . . .
one arm reaches
snooze . . .

sleepless night
eyes red and puffy
neither apologize

cuckoo clock sounds
I roll over
on the couch

in the middle of nowhere
I find a little--
piece of heaven

on the outside
looking in
the fireplace roars

old red barn
leaning to the left
family farm

ceramic tiles
young girl plays hopscotch
in the kitchen

sliding
from side to side
black ice invisible

snuggling close
ten little toes
beneath the quilt

warm sun
in a foreign land
margaritas

four hour flight
Tiffany’s windows
more beautiful than imagined

choo choo train miles away
toddler boy perks up
eyes full of wonder

pre-school
she spells her name
missing a letter

Christmas morning
Kids wake up
a new puppy!
