Selected Haiku

by
Stephanie Meis

I learned about Haiku when I chose to take a Global Haiku class at Millikin University. That class opened a whole world to me. I now enjoy looking back on life events to write about them. That’s how this little book has developed. This book has some of my favorite, funny, and heart touching moments included in it. Please take a look at my filling system that I created for my memories and myself.

crackling bonfire
kids huddled together
during a ghost story

frost covered window
a child breathes
to clear a spot to see

early morning dew
the dog’s feet
are all wet

big puddle
a splash that
little feet make

rain pelting the window
children’s toes sticking out
from beneath the bed

salty air
children’s feet prints
chasing each other

mother of twins
twice the mischief
twice the love

Time Goes On

winter evening party
several days after
belated birthday

snowflakes fall
a new year begins

longer days
scent of fresh cut grass
dogwood trees in bloom

barbeque grills
and hot summer nights

high up in the sky
shining so bright
a silver moon

crops being severed from the land
as the leaves change colors
