Rengay Attempts 1

PACE Global Haiku--Rengay Attempts 1, January-February 2007

Untitled Rengay

curled up
laying
on the bed

     your smile
     wiped away

sheets warm
on the bed
covered up

quivering
endlessly
icicles

     fever breaks
     paleness gone

medicine
with one serving
happiness again

Jerry Bobbett

Renga

our first kiss
new love
blossoms under the cherry tree

my nervous heart pounds
a deafening beat

trying to look cool
before my friends
a dare!

a blur of flesh
across the basketball court

apprehended
the cold leather
of the principal’s office chair

he told the story again
at our twenty-fifth class reunion

Kara

Patience

outside my frosted window
ice laden branches
reflected in a puddle of melted snow

the wind swirls the snow
birds searching

no sign of autumn’s leftovers
brown earth leaves no clue
to where beauty once bloomed

bare trees and cold air
no activity outside today
we wait for spring

lamb and lion wait patiently
while children build men of snow

cherish each moment now
my friend
in a moment it will change

a rengay by
Amber Anderson
& Wayne Longwill

Innocence

Sun slips through window
Smell of bacon
Chores done quickly

Perched on a rock
Waiting for a friend

Hot afternoon sun
Little backyard pool
Children swim in a circle

Pruned hands and feet
Warm fuzzy towels

Music getting closer
Coins clinched tight
Ice cream drips to sidewalk

Memory of a day
Never forgotten

a rengay by Kathy Carter
& Debby Lienhop

The Talk

father and son
chat
mostly about the past

     good
     and bad

the truth
comes out
about them both

     education
     and knowledge

key
bright and respectable
future to come

by Shannon
and Lindell Williams

Stay in Touch

Awaited invitation
Excitement and worry
Fond memories

Extra pounds, extra inches
Laugh lines now wrinkles

Our first prom
Will he be there
Tall and handsome…I recall

Young love renewed
Heart thumping

Sharing snapshots
Children and spouses
Lives compared

Old friends become new
Tears and goodbyes

A rengay by
Kathy Carter, Annie Jones, and Kara Manning

Illinois Winter

ice sickles formed
car door knob
frozen

chin tucked in
scarf pulled tight

sub-zero winds
across the horizon
a journey to make

shivering
endlessly

the artic blast
penetrates
the sting of a bee

indian summer
close in a thought
