Haiku

by
Kara Manning

lightning flashes
chains of the old porch swing
creak in the dark

soft morning light
our first kiss good-bye
after the honeymoon

a momentary pause
at the stop sign
where no one stops

crying baby
the crowd applauds
another firework

stars on the water
fireworks explode
in the night sky

first cold rain
muddy paw prints
across the wooden floor

summer rain
I try to hide
my tear streaked face

one stray snowflake
upon my nose
a lover’s kiss

the leafless tree
covered with ice     a cardinal
cries for his mate

lonesome highway
snowflakes melt
against the windshield

orange Popsicle stain
on middle C
I practice Bach
