Haiku

by
Shannon Williams

I try to write haiku about special memories that hold an important part in my mind. Normally, these are things which I have not thought about for some time, but the memories will always be there.

mosquito
takes a taste
no more

winter
she came back
only to leave again

lights off
in the basement
firefly lamp

shortly after class
a star
appears

ice silenced town
the trees
broken

cracked and chipped
snowman
smiling

brown leaves
a dog plays fetch
alone

page by page
the diary of her life
burned

candle lit
bedroom
cold on the prairie

below zero temperatures
on the lake
without a crack

ice sickles formed
old red barn
not yet fallen
