Beginnings

I chose the title “Beginnings” for this collection of haiku because I am just beginning on my journey as a haiku poet. The haiku I have chosen is about my children, myself as a mother and about our family. Together we are building a life and I hope this is just the beginning!

in her nursery
wweet baby’s breath
morning glory

football field
he seems so small
Mom can’t look

taking her to school
she wipes
my tears

NAIL BITER

the band plays
as teams warm up—
jump ball

catch the pass
first to score

foreheads perspire
knotted score
means overtime again

pacing on the sideline
biting his tongue
as the ref jogs by

rows of bleachers
filled with school spirit

the team rallies
playing as one
success
