Journey into the Void

Preface: I titled my collection “Journey into the Void” to relate to a rengay I wrote with fellow Haiku student Taylor Hagerdorn. The poems in this collection are what I believe to be my best works from the semester. I chose from the first day of class all the way through up until the end to show how my writing has changed. Never before this class would I have thought I would be such a creative writer and I am very excited to share my newfound knowledge and enjoyment of haiku with my future students.

A Walk Through the Void

wandering in the dark
looking for something
can’t seem to find it

mind blanks like shadows,
flat plane of wondering

walking alone
deep in thought
unaware of my surroundings

the void chews, swallows
and the endless search
continues, continues

falling in and out
between choices

consciousness, awareness
indecision like waves on sand,
ebbs and flows

blowing into the cartridge
the start-up sound hums

pile of leaves
I want to jump in
but I have to be professional

flipping the channels
find something interesting
credits start to roll

driving through the night
snow coming down
hope I make it home

snow day
no school for kids
now what do I do?

aliens landing
first contact
all they want is booze

spring cleaning
find an assignment due weeks ago
oops

on my way to a test
past the big M
rub it for luck
