Essay on Cor van den Huevel

A Family Haiku Collection
by

Jonathan Heise

The following pages are a small collection of haiku that I have written. The haiku that I have chosen to share with you are written from either an experience that I have had or something that caught my attention that I thought would be worthy material for a haiku.

These haiku capture a very small instance in time from either my memory or a recent experience; these are then converted into words. As you will notice the inspiration for my haiku, and my life for that matter, is my family. I have three wonderful young boys and a wife of over seven years, all whom I love dearly. These moments that I have captured in haiku are forever etched into my memory and now you can enjoy them as well.

brilliant summer eve
together we laugh—
on the swing

warm summer day
we toss the bread
the ducks reply with laughter

the ball leaves the bat
the team jumps up
high fives

cool winter night
hickory burns
on the old worn grate

peering out the window
fresh fallen snow
angels

Superman waits—
with a smile
for his flight to bed

summer eve
sprawled on a blanket
fireworks

boiling summer day
the porta-potty
lays on its side

spring festival
whiskey bottles
under the Ferris Wheel
