Essay on Rod Willmot

dad saddened
my eyes full of
alligator tears

packing again
pushing my boxes along
new home

“Pumpkinhead do you need help?”
Daddy lifts his little girl
into the cab

laughing as
we do the dirty . . .
dishes

last minute shave in the sink
clean room
pink satin sheets

pushing through the
last morning frost
naked ladies

alone with my mother
last day in our home
kissing the walls goodbye

By the Light of the Stars

the lone sound
of a heartbeat—
my head on his chest

softly—
soothing me to sleep

the lull of
the fan . . .
sweaty summer night

my smooth hands
slip around his waist

his callused hands
rubbing my
back

quietly we embrace
the music of the night
