Photo Haiku Matching Contest • Spring 2006

museum marble,
crafted centuries ago for
this empty chair

sitting in a museum
unseen to human eyes—
old man's spirit

Wal-Mart price tag
$19.99 dollar chair
in an ancient temple

swept up shavings
of the
hand-carved walls

she waited
for his love
until . . .
he let her fade away

thoughts of childhood
the cold
of the electric chair

simply
tired of waiting—
I leave.

clearing the cobwebs
from my heart's empty chambers
spring cleaning

sunlight through
the forest canopy
a light in dark places

seeing it's beauty
our frozen fingers
drop the guilty ax

a lone chair
waits for you
in hell

unreachable light
my four legs
useless

world of extremes
I fear light
more than dark

emptiness
etched
against the light

an empty chair
patiently waits for
days long past

alone . . . I sit
quietly waiting
as the years pass
