Growing Up

by
Andi McCoy

I have experienced writing haiku as a way to express my feelings in incomplete thoughts. I have enjoyed being able to just summarize my feelings in such a simple way. My haiku come from my experiences in life. I have found that this is the easiest way for me to write. My favorite haiku is

from wearing diapers
to changing diapers
growing up

I wrote this because everyone at their point in life experiences a change like this one and it is just a part of growing up.

sharing the room
the brothers gossip
of their first dance

daddy gave me away
although I still like to dance
on his feet

sizzling on the stove
timer going off
first couple’s dinner

parents drive away
kids walk behind trees
make out session

lights out
stars glowing
sleeping on the ground

snow covered house
inside a sick baby
snuggling on mother’s lap

snow balls
red face
cracking window

long romantic kiss
cheers
silk veil
