Cigarette Whispers

by
Conner Patrick Kerrigan

The haiku included in this collection are very important to be because they capture moments in my life that mean so much about who I am. These haiku are about the important people in my life, the significant places, my addictive personality and music. All of them bring me back to specific moments in time and I feel like a lot of them are the moments that define me as a person. I truly hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Conner Kerrigan is a Music B.A./Information Systems, B.S. Double Major. His journey with haiku started when he enrolled in the Global Haiku Traditions class. Conner was originally not a fan of haiku, but is now, instead, not a fan of people who don't understand haiku.

smooth voice
cuts through the smokey bar
jazz chords

my shoes crush soldiers
making mountains
ants in a field

a slow drag
ignites my chest
cigarette whispers

silent embrace
ella sings us
to sleep

peeling paint
a wraparound porch
home

the oldest record
pulled from the shelf
dust cloud

turning to leave
my hand gently brushes
a breast

ending our talk
we say goodbye
and walk the same way

finally alone
between the sheets
the door opens suddenly

bursting excitement
I thought he waved
to me

a kiss held in memory
for years to come
because we bumped heads
