Reflection Through Haiku

To me, haiku is about capturing something. Be it a moment, and emotion, or a story, haiku is about taking complex ideas and making them simple and strong. The art of writing these haikus involved some deep soul searching and exploration, and I hope that I have conveyed part of myself and my world in the following collection.

piano bench
has space for one . . .
we fit two

the taste of salt
your tears
or mine?

these chocolates
show I care
right?

left right
up down
I like circles

home alone
a branch breaks—
obviously a serial killer.

like milk
two days expired
my tainted heart

your laughter
on our family videos
haunts me. still.

the child laughs
as she holds the pill bottle
mommy's candy

wrinkled stockings
bow slightly askew
