Rip in My Tent

by
Katherine Goethals

I personally like to write haiku that can be relatable. My favorite haiku give a good sense of description but also room for interpretation. I try to write about things that most people have been through. Also, my second favorite haiku are ones that are wrote about nature and the reader can physically imagine that they are there. I dedicated the title of my book to my favorite self wrote haiku. The title is a summary that can also be interpreted into each haiku. ~Katie

“Katie writes very relatable haiku that most people experience during their lifetime. This makes her haiku fun and easy to read. Two of my favorite haiku written by her are “fresh cut grass, the aroma fills, the country house” and “silence burning, over a roaring, Fire.” I love the image and smell the freshly cut grass and country house gives me from the first haiku. In the second haiku I love her specific choice of words that make the haiku piece together nicely. Katie’s careful word choice and relatable haiku make her collection a must read!” -Lexi Doss

Biography

I am currently a math education major at millikin university. I plan to obtain my degree and teach at a middle or high school. I have grown up in small town close to millikin where I was able to experience life fairly close to nature. I like to write my haiku about what most people can relate to or interpret themselves.

lights dimmed
couple cooking dinner
wine in hand

late movie night
only awake
the first five minutes

she brushes her hair
one last time
trying to be perfect

walking the mall
lap after lap
the aged couple chats

my skin still tingles
from the touch of your hand
gone

newlyweds
driving away
out of focus

paintings on the wall
curtains hung
still not homey

messy hair
old t shirt
no cares

fresh pizza
delivered
p.s. I love you

running late
spilling coffee
all over my outfit

center of attention
the couple dances
careless

early morning sun
peaking at me through
the rip in my tent

blankets covering
the livingroom floor
failed fort

the unit circle
might actually be
the meaning of life
