wilted roses
fall
from juliet's  alcony

2

I'll talk to my dying succulent
I'll treat us both
with kindness

alcohol breath
cigarette smoke
he won't change

4

diary tucked
in a used bookstore shelf
a stranger's grief

5

snow flurries
a cat in the window
watching

6

christmas lights
glowing next
to candy hearts

7

you are a stranger
whose laugh
I’d recognize anywhere

8

the crowded street
and I still feel myself
as the only one

9

silence of the night
the laughs of those
who cannot sleep

10

snow under my boots
my heart no longer warm
without you

11

the first step
in blankets of white
where did my foot go?

12

no one else’s lips
have fit
quite like yours

13

reaching forward
my hand pulls yours
out of the snow

14

ears perking up—
her own language!
i missed you dear friend

15

little paws patter
following me
home

16

little stars
we take turns
twinkling

17

dark night lit up by
the snow
i can see you clearly

18

sitting in my office chair
only room for one
dog jumps in my lap

I stop next to a
friendly stranger

25

my big boot
i step around
a small angel

26

the nature trail
where did
the birds go

snow in my shoe
my feet blue
I can’t tell her

28

mesmerized
clunk
            clunk
                        clunk
sheets swirl in the washer

29

spinning tires
stuck on the icy patch
help from a neighbor

mom says
I'm a woman now . . .
                 I'm not ready

3:37am
I'm finally myself

charcoal
on the tips of my fingers
a smudge left in an empty room

33

hummingbird
born with a beak—
to drink nectar

34

snow falls
the anticipation
of another email

35

snow covered hills
childish glee
i wonder how long this will last

36

a night sky
searching for meaning
a star winks back

37

a stunning view—
did we take
a wrong turn

38

off the beaten path
my shoes covered
in dew

39

a stranger
pushes my suv
don't let off the gas

40

footprints
snow angels
the perfect night

41

he runs
the geese

42

step by step
closer to the end . . .
sigh

43

contagious laughter
she takes
a tumble

44

a world full of gossip
trees whisperingg—
on and on

45

a shitty night’s sleep          then class

46

47

i hear them . . .
making memories
that aren’t mine

48

splintered selenite
the forgiving moon
in my palm

our voices bounce off quiet
snow streets

52

ready to go out in the snow
except one

53

a curious little dance
she finds a clear spot
out of the snow

recovering from the rain

59

at the edge of a cliff
battling the wind

some people
have never made a snowman

the whole galaxy
under her feet

65

a lonely cardinal
sitting
in a winter wonderland

66

sour vocals
only loved—
by me

67

dancing through
broken glass
all for you

68

i am ready to feel
(oh, my Lord, your love,
it envelops me)

69

that melted my heart
are you this sweet to everyone?
or just me?

70

roads, schools, the state
. . . closed
I have to work

71

a newly painted
crosswalk
should I take a step

72

dancing around the table
La Grange on the stereo
I will never forget

73

crunch of snow
children's voices
across the neighborhood

74

fingers carding through hair
feeling nothing
but you

75

peanut butter
on the paper plate
made with love

76

stale snow
gone too cold
hard as a rock

77

a snowball?
from behind
better be someone i like

78

an actor prepares
mechanical pencil
to fresh music

79

foggy windows down
a summer breeze
rushes in

80

a mother
a father
their warm embrace

81

the sun shines a little too bright
damn
next time: sunglasses
