moonlight through the blinds—
thinking it is dawn
I pull her closer

awakened from a dream
her scent
lingers

crowded awards banquet:
between first and second place
we hold our breath

eye of the storm—
the neighbors’ mailbox
in our front yard

the drive to school
after an all-nighter . . .
eyes drift shut snap open

second day of Tai Ji class—
father beside son
practicing the forms

secluded fishing hole—
my bait disappears
beneath murky water     again

returning to campus years later
the Bronze Man
still on the same page
