Family get together
trying to remember—
which ear is the good one?

Root canal appointment
Celine’s singing
adding to my pain

Friday evening
older sister at home
our ears to the door

Weekend mall excursion . . .
walking twelve feet
in front of his parents

Summer sunset
putting down the hedge clippers . . .
he gazes

Fourth of July party
all of my uncles in the hot tub
I am no longer hungry.

Karaoke night
a Michael Bolton fan
takes the stage

Easter Sunday in church
next to the little girl in lace—
her T-shirt clad father

hazy evening
the last one picked
pulls grass blades in the outfield

Graceland tour
stepping out of the line
to touch his toilet seat

Mom’s hair
a little frostier this week
I pretend I like it

Before he arrives
looking in the mirror
to practice her "femme fatale"

Car racing event
After 48, I stop counting
the men who resemble Billy Ray
