From the Inside, Out

Haiku

by
Krista Duffett

grandmother's soft fingers
along my back
asleep in no time

his thunder
confines me
to his black cloud

looking into
Dad’s spectacled green eyes
I see myself

new boyfriend
older brother
greets the door first

spring rain gently falls
anticipation of what may come
first love blooms

freckle on his lip
one crooked tooth
his smile feels perfect

hot sugar milk
warming up
all of my insides
