Tanka & Peace

by
Heather R. Burgess

As a young girl, writing was my only means of releasing pain. Poetry soon became my art outlet away from home life. Then I quit writing for a long time. At Millikin I chose to take the Tanka Writing Roundtable class even though I knew nothing about tanka. I have learned a formal way of writing short poetry. I learned better expression by using feelings and the scenary around me.

sleepless nights
long ran out days
I still stand by
my decision
to let you go

my
long lost friend
I have awaited
your arrival
. . . chocolate

lonely day
while you work
a computer on my right
tv on my left
is it 6:00 yet?

Give
me your hand
I'll let you have mine
You are my heart
and you can have my soul
