perfumed sweat
in a smokey bar,
she asks to dance

singing my heart out
to a face in the mirror,
hairbrush in hand

sidewalk lit
by smiling gourds
a little clown sobs

empty swings
     still in motion,
I'm left again

cluttered room
in grandpa's basement
my old toys in boxes
