1

window open
the wind says go
so I go

2

no one talks
he passes me a snack
like always

3

stringer of fish
none of them hatching
an escape plan

4

nowhere to be
my dog looks back
just to check

5

big band dance
the loosened bowtie
of the trumpet

6

headlights on . . .
slowly the funeral cars
run the red light

7

she walks away
I stand and wait
for one more wave

8

the same smell
as last spring   but
one voice is gone

9

everyday sirens—
the hidden
crosswalk

10

nighttime horrors—
from rural silence
to screeching cars

11

hand on the handle;
overhearing the conclusion
of her family

12

labradoodle eyes shift
with every plate noise
an intent beggar

13

kite in the sky—
pulled by the wind
and some part of me

14

the kick of a ball
children laugh
recess

15

a singular painting
in plexiglass
a long line

16

car ride
she pretends
to be asleep

17

evening light—
he shifts his reel
I copy without asking

18

summer path—
the dog runs ahead
like he knows the way
