Sister Cities Haiku Contest Award Haiku

The Sister Cities sponsored a haiku contest for citizens of these three cities with the award-winning haiku presented at the opening reception. The following haiku were displayed at the Decatur Public Library for a month before and after the festival.


We had one award winner from Germany:

Schneeflocken fallen,
die Erde ist weiss bedeckt
und leuchtet im Schein des Mondes
Snowflakes are falling,
 the earth is covered white
sparkling in the shine of the moon

1)shabondama chikyu ga kurukuru mawatteru

          soap bubbles—
          the earth turns
          round and round

          shaved ice--

          summer vacation:
          a cycling tour
          all by myself

          Shinhotaka:           *Shinhotaka is a mountain resort.
