I grew up on a small farm in southwestern Wisconsin, attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa (where Father Raymond Roseliep was my creative writing professor), and earned an M.A. and a doctorate in English from Notre Dame.

About 20 years ago I moved to Maine, where I teach literature and writing at St. Joseph's College. I am currently a Professor of English and Chairman of the English Department at St. Joseph's. I live in Westbrook with my wife, Jeanne, and our two children, Brendan and Brigid.
