The Towpath Haiku Society began in 1994 as a group of poets interested in writing and sharing haiku. The name "Towpath" was inspired by the C & O Canal that runs alongside the Potomac near Washington DC.

The 2025 anthology features sample haiku by each member. It also includes memorial haiku and tributes to members who have passed away including: Ellen Compton, Kristen Deming, Mary Wuest, Fonda Bell Miller, Tei Matsushita, and Jimmy "The Peach" Aaron,
