Chldhood Memories

by
Abbey Matthews

Throughout school, I have always disliked writing and learning about poetry. I would struggle with writing it because I didn't really understand how to properly read and write it until I got to this class. Haiku are a type of poetry that I never learned about in school and it really stuck out to me because of how short and simple they are. Learning to read and write haiku has shown me that you can convey a heavy meaning in just a few words, which I have really enjoyed.

four chairs
and two big blankets
our weekend home

colorful diving sticks
he feels the bottom
for his goggles . . .

rainy day . . .
ruins the plans
we grab our boots

midnight snack run
we sit in the car
laughing for hours

the scent of blueberry muffins
as the over door creaks
grandma's house

the ground is white
cookie crumbs on the table
Christmas morning

the school bus
driving away
another year of memories
