What Today Brought Me

by
Kendra Marnul

From someone who has ADHD, each day looks a little bit different. When I think of haikus it suppose to come from feeling and emotion. Each day, feelings and emotions can be different. I wanted my haiku to reflect that. I feel the best thoughts and ideas come randomly. I felt that the title fits perfect because each day is different. So why not share what I felt that day or what my imagination created.

I have gained a strong appreciation for simplicity, awareness, and precision in both thinking and speaking because of learning the literary art of haiku writing and reading. Haiku calls for precise word choice and an understanding of the beauty in the little things. I have improved my capacity to concentrate on important things via this exercise, which will help me in my social, professional, and personal life.

UnEvEn BaRs—
flying in the air like a single bird
in the open sky

all alone . . .
under a dark blue sky filled stars??
wondering what it’s like on Mars??

short grass?
lies underneath??
the crisp white ball??

Amalfi coast??
the smells of pizza?
fill the air??

butterflies—
heart flutters?
I found the one?
