My First Haiku

by
Damyah Word

When I first started this class I had no idea what a haiku is. I had fun learning and interpreting poems in my own way. I really didn’t know how to form them at all but as I went on, I found my voice and how I saw them. Its about letting your imagination take you to a certain place or how you could relate in your day-to-day life. I don’t think there is any wrong way to read them because everyone thinks differently. My poems are a like bit more relatable than imaginative.

open space
closed mind
small sips

alone
wind whistles
zoning out

fast traffic
tall buildings
look down on me

far from home
the sun is shining
fainally, a vacation

watefall mind
blank stare
overthinking things

early morning orange sky
lacking up the shoes
on the toddlers
