A New Side

As I am writing this, it is June 2021. I just took Dr. Randy Brooks’ Global Haiku Traditions class and enjoyed it a whole lot. In this class, I learned a bunch about writing haiku and honestly, myself. Every week the class would meet up on Zoom and discuss our favorite haiku that we all had written. It was so interesting and inspiring to see the different outlooks on certain haiku. It really made me think about what I was writing and why. I selected a few of my favorites and a few haiku that had my favorite responses. The audience/readers are what make stories and writings come to life. The one’s that I chose are the ones that are most important to my life right now. They come from a deeper place and a more memorable place. Thank you for taking your time to read and hopefully, you will find something relatable or something that really sparks your imagination.

birthday
four paws
playing ball

brother gone
silent house
nothing is the same

toss and turn
covers on
or covers off?

thoughts so loud
you
are my quiet place

hiding behind
this screen
like everyone else

lying straight
trying to be quiet
(don't wake her up)

the feeling of her paw
in my hand
I'm complete

as she steps
onto the stage
a new side of her
