Igentry Wilson

Selected Haiku
by

Igentry Wilson

My name is Igentry Wilson. I was born June 28, 1971 to two Pastors. I was raised in the City of Decatur, but was blessed with the accommodation of farm life five miles outside of Mt. Zion, Illinois in the small town of Casner. I worked on our family farm from the age of ten until adulthood. My city experiences are what I focus most of my haiku on. Occasionally, I will reflect on the country settings for atmospheric reasons. In the country is where I started writing poetry. As my life has changed I have become a technological person. I aim to incorporate technology and some of its jargon into haiku.

dusty wood floor
timed bumping
Grandma’s afghan
smells of sweetness

hospital beds
with teary eyes
waiting for change
he went away

he gave me some sugar
his lips so sweet
until the kiss—bitter

the vibration of race cars
in my chest
the shot . . . over

his chest swollen, sore,
and hard
a pillow for my head
