Enter My Mind: Selected Haiku

by Crystal Swaim

When I started this class, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I really enjoyed the first two classes, but by the third I was beginning to question myself. I realize I was making it too hard. All I needed to do was open my mind and think of things that have happened in my past. Here I have done that and included a few of my own favorite haiku. So, I leave you by saying, enter my mind.

little red car
a dozen eggs
smashed

         Her Snapshots

whimpers in the cold night
she cries out for
mother's milk

         the bell rings
         we walk hand in hand

a dance to remember
love at first sight
my first kiss

         fall leaves
         passenger scared of new driver

tulip fragrance
walk across the stage at
graduation ceremony

         student loans
         100 miles from home

on the deck
barbie swims
in cold water

first day of summer
the smell of diesel
all aboard

warm autumn night
fifty yard line
touchdown wildcats

icy day
plastic rapping uncontrollably
cannot fall back asleep

hot sand
the smell of sunscreen
we make castles

needle in her foot
bandage on her eyes
heartache
