Selected Haiku

by
Bobbi Batchelder

This is a collection of my best Haiku.  I have learned through writing haiku that I have a greater appreciation for nature and the changing of seasons now that I live in the country. Since transitioning from city life to country life, I have learned to slow down and enjoy the open country and its broader view of life.  I take pleasure in the tranquil surroundings, changing of seasons, and gardening. I use them as a form of relaxation.   I will ponder these experiences in my heart and their images will forever be in my mind.

dusty gravel road
with bare fields on either side
the road to home

road trip
counting road kill
just to pass the time

a cicada diligently works
to break free
a fragile thin shell left behind

Saturday Morning

a child’s red face
whining…
that’s not fair

stomping down the hall—
stupid, stupid mom

mom listens
laughing at the emotions
of her dramatic son

door slams
toys bang—
slowly poking his head out the door

timidly he asks
can I go outside?

mom replies
as soon as you
finish your homework
