Life—by Me

by
Leslee Finney

This collection of Haiku I’ve written, entitled “Life – By Me”, gives the reader a brief view of some of the different aspects of my life, hence the title I have chosen for this collection. In my Haiku I tried to take the reader to a place, a feeling, a memory of their own; to leave one wondering about certain things and relating to others. I tried to give the reader a taste of my past and present; a picture in their mind; an idea of what makes me who I am today: a wife, mother, daughter, friend, questioner, encourager, wonderer.

My approach to writing Haiku is to think of an event, person, time, object, or image that I am attached to in some way emotionally. I try to express my emotion through the words that I choose and hope that someone else can relate to what I am presenting.

mother’s funeral
sunflowers dancing
in a child’s hands

a parent’s choice of pink
for a daughter’s coffin . . .
she hated pink

on a treadmill
feet moving quickly
going nowhere

fresh footprints
on a snow covered street
a runner’s joy

layers and layers of clothing
to play outside
I’m ready to go in now

eyes blue as the ocean
give me that look
I cave in again

her big brown eyes
cups of mocha
that warm my heart

stars twinkling in the sky
I look to heaven
to blow you kisses
