Selected Haiku

by
Carson Lomax

My approach to haiku is to pull from memories or experiences from when I was a child. These memories consist of going to a small Baptist church where my mom would play piano and sing in the choir or memories of holidays spent at my grandparents old farmhouse. I try to capture the spirit of the memory to imbibe the reader with the same feelings of love, wonder, and joy that I had as a child.

father’s wristwatch
only right
twice a day

sunspots and age lines
tell a story
this old house

small country church
a boy snores
as the choir sings

goblin shadows cast
by roaring bonfire
harvest moon

white winter powder
a sled goes…
Woooosh!
