As Time Goes By

haiku by
Mary Swigert

My HAIKU collection sparks memories of my life. My story spans my childhood and adult life. While my fondest memories include raising my children, I treasure every minute of my life and have wished many times that time would stand still. As time goes by, I find that each moment in time brings new memories to cherish.

after morning Mass
sharing the playground
ashes on our foreheads

SOUTHERN STYLE

spring break—
off to the lone star state
for a taste of southern comfort

just the two of us
hand in hand

circling the riverwalk
so many restaurants
so little time

candles and tablecloths
a sizzling steak
awaits

time stands still
sharing key lime pie

our last day
in paradise
where will we dine tonight?

rows of soybeans
jeans
heavy with dew

candles burning
we hold hands
as our steak sizzles

driving through a blizzard
finally a snowmound of lights
where warmth awaits

snow and sleet
braving the weather
for a basketball frenzy
