On Margaret Chula's Haiku

Memoirs of a Teenage Mother

by
Susan Berroyer

I really enjoyed this class because it is subjective rather than objective. I think creative writing is an expression of self to the
ever-changing world around us. We are influenced by our prior knowledge and cultural backgrounds. I enjoy having the opportunity to express my emotions without criticism. I realize that not every verse is good, but I find writing as a way of venting my personal frustrations. I believe reading other people’s work provides an avenue for personal growth in one’s writing. It is a springboard for meaningful thought and inspiring
ideas, which one can add to his/her haiku verse. My inspiration comes from within and without. Some of my work reflects my emotions. I find that type of writing to be a means of healing my soul. It is very therapeutic. Other verses are a combination of things or ideas I have read about or situations my daughters and I have experienced.
