haiku

by
Tamika Hall

Writing haiku for me was fun and a stress reliever. The uplifting
feeling I get from reading and analyzing haiku, is what I wanted to portray in my own haiku. The haiku I choose for this book were one’s I considered fun.

The Search

a lonely
walk home
in the night

owl’s hoot
sound of locust swarming

a chill fills the air
gusts of wind
make the old tree sway

shadows follow
closely behind in the moonlight

piercing bright light
suddenly appears
heart pounds and hands shiver

Dad yells…
We found the dog.

newborn
brought to my bedside
twenty toes wiggling

standing room only
empty seats
reserved for the band

leather shoes
finally…
broken in

sunrise on the horizon
the roaster crows
fried chicken for lunch

barbeque
finger lickin
sauce on my shirt
