The Haiku Compilation

by
Connor Mendenhall

This book is meant to keep giving. As you can see, my haiku only make up a small chunk of the large number of pages in this book. This is purposeful in hopes that as you have no more ideas of haiku to write, you pass the book on to a friend. I want this book to be a huge compilation of multiple authors of haiku.

fire crackles
the man plays
vinyl records from his youth

grandpa’s cigarette
standing on the porch
talking our lives away

the blue
peeking through . . .
snapping turtle of the sky

guitar’s brass strings
breaking the silence
his cancer

open casket
grandpa's after-shave
fills the air

grass stains
the young couple
intertwined on the earth

gingerbread cookies
covered in cigar smoke
post-war Christmas

growing old together
wherever the wind blows
twins

refrigerator buzz
teasing me . . .
an afternoon beer?

fire and beer
warming us
inside and out

the perfect place
to hide the bodies
window seat

cold spring night
placing my feet
on the bonfire bricks
