Haiku

by

on the cottage
ivy leaves
they found their home

alone and cold
a box on a road
the black kitten

the silver watch
showing both times
of you and I

the warning signs,
my grandmother's pain . . .
unnoticed.

laughing I imagined
my friends,
as sisters

opening the window
     I let in
          the cold breeze

butterflies in love
I watch them
fly by

the bird
shaking his head
at my outfit

my cat and I
gossip about
the careless birds

my sisters and I
choosing pink African daisies
for her grave

organ songs
rooibos tea
grandmother's hum

his handwriting
notes of rosewood
kind memories
