About the Author

My dad worked for The Exchange Service after retiring from the Navy. Although I wasn’t an “army brat” I went to High School in Korea on an army base. I have been a working musician for most of my life playing in various bands. I worked for the Decorator’s Union setting up exhibit booths for conventions and shows. I was also a delivery driver.

I am a dyed-in-the-wool night owl and an avid fisherman. I have spent many nights beneath the stars and seen a thousand moons while fishing for food and fun. Birds have fascinated me since I was a young boy. They occasionally appear in some of my haiku. My favorites are owls, mockingbirds, nightingales, wrens and thrushes. In fact, my love of nature is one aspect that drew me to haiku.

When mom died I decided as a tribute to her to take a deep dive into haiku. For the preceding ten years prior to her passing she suffered with dementia, and I was her caretaker. A difficult task indeed. For the next ten years I read and studied haiku and in 2014 I began to submit to journals. Now in 2025 I offer these humble poems in my first chapbook hoping people will find something enjoyable and worthwhile.
