Diving into My Mind

by
Maddy Hendricks

When getting started in this course, I had little to no knowledge about the art of haiku. I’ve always loved writing, but I’ve never taken it as seriously as I should. I decided to title this “Diving Into My Mind”. I don’t typically share a lot emotionally with other people; therefore, I tried to express this in some of the haiku I was writing. I was able to take a deeper dive into my mind and organize my thoughts and feelings. The assortment of haiku I have chosen is the one that is the deepest to me. They are the haiku that made me think about my life and made me emotional when writing them. Along with the sadness, I found reassurance and calmness in reading and writing these, and I hope you feel the same.

warm house
a quiet meow
fades away

a cold room
mother's tears
an empty crib

the moon shines bright
my grandma sings to me
from above

warm cafe
coffee cup
lipstick stained

best friends always
i've love him since
day one

carrot for a nose
upright in the ground
can't stay long

grandma's house
together
games on the table
